Pattern: Just Like Heaven by Libs Elliott

Pieced by Bobbie Gentili

Completed March 2018

Thread: Aurifil Mako 50 wt cotton in 5 colours

How I quilted it:

The straight line quilting enhances the movement of shapes in the grey background fabric. In some areas, a pattern emerges: a square on point, a series of triangles pointing the same way. I used more intricate, whimsical motifs to give these areas focus and framing. In some places, the piecing wasn’t perfectly aligned, so I used the quilting to take the focus away from those areas, either by using perpendicular lines to distract from seams that don’t make a straight line, or by using denser quilting to make the area stand out less.

Most of the areas are quilted with matching thread colours, with some intentional crossover of the brighter colours onto the dark grey.
