This might be my best sewing tip. It’s short and sweet, but can have a profound impact.
Some days, you just don’t feel like sewing. Some days, the WIP feels too immense, too simple act of threading the machine is just a hurdle that feels insurmountable. Those days, you just have to push through the inertia, get into your sewing room/nook/”dining room” (because you don’t actually dine there, amiright??), Turn on some music, and do 1 thing.
Make 1 block.
Sew 1 seam.
Cut the pieces from 1 fabric.
Press 1 seam allowance.
Pick 1 small goal and go for it. If you push through and only get that 1 thing done, you’re 1 step closer to finishing your project.
You might get enough momentum to keep going, but even if you don’t, you’re still ahead.

This is a great tip. It reminds me of the phase of life when I had a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old and the *only* way I got things done was to sew just one seam. (Or just 6 inches of one seam as the case may be.)
I still have nightmares about the time when my kids were 3 and 1 😬
Great tip! I do this also, sometimes I just choose the thread I want to use for the next step of my project. Every little bit helps.
