Glitch-Along FAQs, Early Bird Prizes, and Recommended Tools

We’re one week away from the beginning of #glitchalong and I feel like the hostess checking over all the table settings before guests arrive!

Here are a few housekeeping items to make sure you get the most out of the event! Read carefully!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to buy the pattern to participate?

In a word, yes. I did a ridiculous amount of math to make this pattern super awesome. I don’t recommend winging it with this one; you’ll easily waste more in fabric and frustration. You can buy a PDF from my site, or grab the paper version at your local quilt shop or one of our awesome sponsors. (Check the Glitch-Along email for discount codes for Purple KATZ Quilting, Stache Fabrics, Troll Brothers Quilt Designs, and Mashe Modern!)

Is the Glitch pattern beginner friendly?

I wouldn’t recommend it for an absolute beginner who has never made a quilt before and is a novice at sewing. If you’ve made a few quilts, I don’t really consider you a beginner. The block construction is beginner friendly. The “intermediate” part is matching the offset seams when connecting blocks. If you’re a perfectionist, this part might make you hate me a little, but hopefully in the way that a fit person hates their personal trainer at the end of a good workout, as opposed to the way Indiana Jones hates snakes. If you’re willing to either embrace your humanity and accept some imperfect points, or take pride in ripping out stitches until you get those points spot on, jump right in!

Can I make the quilt a different colour / bigger / smaller / scrappy / using a different technique?

Of course! It’s your quilt! I want you to make something that you will love! I won’t take off points for deviating from the pattern. But I’m also not going to rewrite the pattern for every possible variation. Read the pattern, understand the techniques, and then decide for yourself if you know how to make the changes that you have in mind, including any quilt math.

I think there’s a mistake in the pattern.

You’re right! There is! Sorry about that. If you’ve found a mistake that’s not listed, email me!

I don’t understand something in the pattern.

You’re probably not alone! If you have questions about something, I would love to clarify. Ask away! I have tips and tutorials and demos planned for every step of making this quilt, so hopefully those will help. Have a look at the Glitch-Along schedule in case you’re getting ahead of yourself!

I don’t use Instagram. Can I share my progress on another platform?

I’d love for you to share your progress anywhere and everywhere! But if you aren’t on Instagram, you’re really missing out on an amazing quilting community. Lots of quilters have accounts just for their quilting, for quilt-alongs, mini quilt swaps, and giveaways. And speaking of giveaways, all the amazing prizes for the Glitch-Along are happening over on Instagram, so if you want a chance at them, set up an Instagram account.

Fine. I made an Instagram account. Are you happy now?

First, make sure your account is public. You can still enter the giveaways if your account is private, but you’ll miss out on all the bonus entries for sharing your progress.

Second, make sure your Instagram user name is in your profile on my mailing list. The easiest way to do this is to open any email from my mailing list and click the “update subscription preferences” link at the very bottom.

How do I win the prizes?

Each week, there will be one or more giveaway posts on my Instagram feed. Each one will have slightly different criteria. For all of them, you will need to follow me and the sponsor of that prize, and you’ll need to comment on the giveaway post. Your comment will have to answer a question about the prize. Why? Because I want you to get to know the awesome stuff that the sponsors have to offer. I’m really hoping to play matchmaker between you and some fantastic small businesses in the quilting community, so think of it as speed dating, rather than just swiping right, or left, or whatever the kids do these days. Read the individual posts for any additional requirements and opportunities for bonus entries. (Hint: the more you interact with other participants on #glitchalong, the better!) Winners will always be chosen by random draw from all eligible entries.

Where can I buy the Stripology Squared ruler?

You may have seen me recommend the Stripology Squared ruler for Glitch. I truly feel that it’s the perfect ruler for this project. I’ll be using it in all of my demos and tutorials as we make our way through the pattern. If you’d like to buy one, you can find it at Purple KATZ Quilting, Troll Brothers Quilt Designs, GE Quilt Designs, and Fat Quarter Shop (affiliate link).

Early Bird Prize #3: $25 off any machine quilting ruler purchase at Silly Moon Quilting Co

Silly Moon Quilting Co is proudly Canadian, and all our rulers are designed and manufactured in beautiful British Columbia. The company started less that a year ago, and we are excited to see steady growth with a large number of repeat customers! I always warn people, rulers are like potato chips, you can’t have just one!!

I am Kellie, a Canadian quilter, business owner, wife, mother and owner of two very large dogs. I have been quilting for a short time but have jumped in with both feet! I purchased a longarm after quilting for approximately a year and needed “rulers” to keep me within the lines, so to speak. So, I made them!

I am fortunate to have experience in, and access to CNC Milling equipment, as well as a variety of software programs that enable me (along with my math guru hubby) to create machine quilting rulers that will do just what I want them to. I really enjoy coming up with new ideas, that make ruler work fun and accessible for all quilters.

I love attending retreats, guild meetings and trade shows not only to showcase our products, but to meet quilters, and take in all the great feedback and suggestions they bring to the table.

$25 gift certificate to be used towards any of our handcrafted, Canadian made machine quilting rulers. All our rulers are made from high grade acrylic, have round edges and corners, and are available in two thicknesses. We offer a variety of shapes that will give your quilting that unique look!

Head over to all 3 Instagram posts for the details!

Best of luck!
